Using historical anecdotes, traditional and original songs accompanied on guitar, banjo and harmonica, Rick's program focuses on the central position that Chicago and the state of Illinois hold in the evolution of the railroad system from east to west, north to south and from steam to diesel locomotion.

 

From The Rock Island Line to The City of New Orleans from Jesse James to The Wreck Of The Old 97 the Steel Rails program weaves a tapestry of history and song into an entertaining and enlightening examination of the social impact the early railroad had on all aspects of American life.
