Downloadable Audiobooks
*This service will end in April 30.*

Reddick Library has joined, ListenIllinois, a project of The Metropolitan Library System, to provide you with access to thousands of downloadable audiobooks. Many titles can be downloaded to your personal computer and transferred to a portable listening device (PDA, MP3 player, etc.) or burned to CDs. Downloadable audiobooks in ListenIllinois' catalog are provided by three different vendors: Audible.com, Recorded Books/NetLibrary, and OverDrive. Why three vendors/services? When combined, the three services offer over 4,000 titles.

  1.  Titles from Audible.com are downloaded in the Library, by Library staff, and circulated on Library-owned MP3 players. See a Librarian or the ListenIllinois FAQ for details on borrowing Audible.com titles.

You can reserve one of the library’s MP3 players. The MP3 players will circulate for two weeks with no renewal allowed. Only Reddick Library cardholders can check out and reserve the MP3 players. Usually two to three titles can be downloaded onto the players, depending on the length of the books. Titles cannot be downloaded onto personal MP3 players, only onto players owned by Reddick Library. The MP3 players can be reserved by calling the library at (815) 434-0509 or by clicking HERE. Please note that title baskets (your title wish list) must be created before checking out the players.

  2. Digital audiobooks from OverDrive can be downloaded to your personal computer and transferred to a portable listening device or, in some cases, burned to CD. These titles are available for download 24/7. They cannot be downloaded to library computers.

Search for titles by category, keyword, title, author, or narrator. Add item to your digital basket. Continue browsing or proceed to checkout. When you checkout, you will be prompted to select your library and enter you library card number. Click to download software that is needed to download from OverDrive. If you already have the software, click download, and you will be prompted to open it or save it to your desktop. To download from your computer to a portable device follow the Media Player instructions. (Note: due to licensing restrictions, digital audiobooks  from OverDrive may not play on some I-Pod models)
