HOURS: Monday-Thursday 9:00am - 9:00pm | Friday-Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm | Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm

Reddick Library now offers notary service free of charge as a courtesy to the residents and visitors of our community. Notary services are provided during the Library’s regular hours of operation on a first come-first served, walk-in basis. Notary service is not available in the 15 minutes prior to closing.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Your completed — unsigned — document(s) to be notarized.
  • A witness or witnesses, if required by your document. IMPORTANT: The Library is unable to supply witnesses. Library staff cannot witness documents they notarize. Other patrons using the library cannot be asked to be witnesses. If witnesses are required for your document, you must provide your own witnesses.
  • A valid, unexpired state ID, federal ID, or other government ID with signature and photo. EXAMPLES: Driver’s license, State ID card, U.S. military ID, U.S. passport.

THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES WILL BE FOLLOWED IN THE PROVISION OF NOTARY SERVICE:

  • Documents must be complete and must be signed in the presence of the notary.
  • Library notaries cannot certify copies of documents or signatures. All documents must be originals.
  • Library notaries cannot provide legal advice or counseling regarding the documents.
  • Library notaries cannot attest to true copies of passports, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, etc.
  • Library notaries do not notarize real estate documents or transactions.
  • Library notaries do not notarize government I-9 forms, nor can they provide an Apostille.
  • Illinois law requires that a notary and the patron seeking notarization be able to communicate directly with each other. Library notaries are not permitted to make use of a translator.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Notary services are a courtesy provided by the Library and not the notary’s primary duty, therefore, we may need to ask you to wait.
  • Library notaries will not prepare or complete documents for you.
  • Notaries are regulated by Illinois law. Library notaries will not notarize documents that do not follow such laws and regulations.
  • In accordance with Illinois law, notaries will not provide service if the document or circumstances of the request for notary service raise any issues of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty for the Library. In this event, the notary may at his/her sole discretion, decline to provide notary service.
  • In accordance with Illinois law, library notaries may ask you to sign their Notary Public Record Book. Library notaries will not provide notary service for patrons who decline to sign the Record Book.
PLEASE NOTE: Library notaries are currently able to notarize documents written in English only.
